A working copy of a document is the revision that is currently under change. Before a document can be edited, a working copy must be created.
To the user, there are three ways to create a revision of a document:
In all three cases, the server uses the same working-copy principle to create an editable copy of the document. Once the document has been released, it can no longer be modified without creating a new revision. This ensures that all released revisions of a document are kept in the vault. Users can see all revisions of a document in the Show Revisions dialog.
Note This principle is different from the check in/check out principle used by most document management systems. With Meridian Enterprise, intermediate revisions of a document can be saved to the vault (for example, every 5 minutes) without creating a new revision of the document. When the document reaches a state that should be saved as a revision, the user releases the document.
A working copy can be deleted by revoking the workflow that created it.
